Discovering the Settlement and Development of Millarville

Students enjoyed the program "Settlers" at the Glenbow Museum in Calgary. This program provided background on Canadian settlement with a focus on the settlement of southern Alberta.
Students were first organized in small groups, each with a parent leader as recorder and then they set out to examine the exhibits while searching for specific artifacts.

Students worked within their small groups to locate 3 different artifacts within the Settlers Gallery. They were provided with an artifact puzzle piece (a segment of a digital photo of an artifact) and were invited to search. Once found, the group discussed:

  • What was the artifact?
  • What was it's use?
  • Why was it important to the exhibit?
