Discovering the Settlement and Development of Millarville

Research groups were the vehicle that allowed all students in the class an opportunity to explore one area of the community's recorded history in detail. These groups explored: Homesteaders, Community Services, Schools, Hamlet Businesses and Rural Development. This research included the use of websites that were created by grade 2/3 students from previous years, local historical society books, "Our Foothills", "Foothills Echoes" and Homesteading videos from the "Millarville Heritage Series".With the help of parent volunteers as co-learners, the children constructed a knowledge base of the settlement and development of Millarville.

Each group prepared presentations demonstrating their understanding of their research.

The following is an example of one of the presentations. In this presentation you will see how the children chose to script parts while leaving some to the interpretation of the actors.
