Discovering our Native PeopleThroughout their exploration the students had 3 key questions.
Students were introduced to the first residents of our community. Our discovery of the native people of the area involved using a variety of resources to familiarize the students with the Stoney people. Through the use local history books, videos, and websites previous students had developed, students were provided a rich overview of these original residents. Studying artifacts through object based learning as well as a field trip to Glenbow Museum in Calgary, furthered their investigation. Students came together to discuss their learning and enrich their understanding of the impact historical events have on our lives and our future which helped to broaden the knowledge base. The knowledge the students developed through this segment of the project allowed them to revisit the land with a new understanding of how the community came to be what it is today. |
