Students began
the year with a field trip around the Millarville community investigating
8 different local historical sites. Students worked in teams to record
pertinent information from the markers and take digital photos of
the landscape. They then shared the significance of these areas with
their classmates. These sites included original homesteads of early
settlers, community halls, one-room schoolhouses, general store/post
offices and an oil well camp.
Students spent time sketching
and painting as part of their Art curriculum. They focused on aspects
of still life, horizon line, background, middle and foreground,
to further help them develop their awareness of, and connection
to, the landscape in and surrounding our community of Millarville.
