Longview Student Story 3:
Community - little New York Gallup Store

Frank Gallup settled in Longview, Alberta in 1920s. His father came to visit him before he left to British Columbia to ranch there. At that time Stan was working for a man that already owned the store. Stan decided to make a partnership with his Father. They bought the owner out and changed it into the “Gallup and Sons” store.
The store had all the stuff you needed. It had food, water, clothing, guns. Everything! Some people say that shopping at the “Gallup and Sons” store was so much fun. There were so many funny old stories. Frank was a character and was in most of all the funny tales. Frank, Stan and Wallace always had a smile on their faces and a good word.
But the Store burnt down, in the 1940’s and was sitting where the “Blue Sky Hotel” is sitting now. Not only was the “Gallup and Sons” just there to get food but it was also used visit with Stan and Frank. And if you did go there just to get food, you would know that you would stay and chat.
