Longview Student Story 3:
Hartell

In the year 1938 in Hartell, what girls did for fun was a bit different than what the boys did. For fun the girls did a lot of things like hop scotch, swing on the swings, swim after school and if it was rainy out they would play cards inside. They also jumped rope. Boys and girls both played scrub baseball.

I think both boys and girls had to make most of their own toys. If you wanted something fancy like a swing you would get a rope and a piece of wood or if you wanted to go swimming in a pool you would have to go in the creek. They also had to use their imagination if they wanted to have fun. Today we still play most of the same games.
