Longview Student Story 2:
Hartell

Mr. Moon had a couple fun stories to tell us about from Hartell 70 years ago about recreation and what the boys did for fun.

School recreation in the 1940s was it way different than now. Boys played football, soccer scrub baseball for recreation. Football was called soccer in 1940 because they used their feet to kick the ball and that is why it is called that in England.

A lot of stuff they played was made up stuff because they didn’t have the technology we have now. If they wanted to go swimming they had to go to the creek or they could go for a long bike ride to Turner Valley pool but it cost them lots of money.
