High River Student Story 4:
High River

Hi, my name is Kathy. I’m a reporter here talking with Liza Shot and Otus Shot about the tree that was carved into three wolves next to the 7 11 store in High River.

Liza, Why didn’t they just cut the tree down?

They didn’t want to just cut the tree down because it was about 115 years old and was part of the town’s history.

Really. That is interesting. Otis who were the people that carved the tree?

Rocky Barstad drew the picture of the wolves and Lorne Eadie carved it.

What kind of tree is it?

It is a cottonwood tree.

Actually it was three cottonwoods that planted it in the same hole.

Why three trees put together?

Well they made a garden but they had three trees left so they put all the trees into the one hole.

Really, that is interesting.  Liza how long did it take to carve the wolves?

It took a few months over a summer.
