Red Deer Lake - Community - Student Story 3:
Sandstone Coulees

Sandstone Coulees is a place where sandstone has been eroded for centuries. In the early 1900s there was as successful quarry and a brick factory in the Coulee. There is still a railway going through which crosses a road. Sandstone Coulee is extremely dangerous at night when the trains go by.

There are no lights or reflective tape on the trains so you can’t see them.  The only way you can know if there is a train is if you can see the headlights of another car underneath the train.

Local people have been asking for years to have reflective tape put on the train or lights at the tracks.

Our community knows to be careful when going into Sandstone Coulee at night.
