Melrose Community Student Story 4

It was really hard to get food for their families. They grew most of their food in gardens. It was very important to get good rain and lots of sunshine so they would grow enough for the winter.

Family activities were very fun especially their school dances. The Martin’s parents settled on a farm across from the school they were very lucky because they didn’t have to walk very far.

Did you know Mr. Martin’s mom was the first student and Mr. Martin Jr. was the last student at Melrose school.  Wow that is very interesting.

Mr. Martin’s cousins were the Norris’s. That is the name that the fancy district next to Heritage Heights is named after.

Did you know that the Norris family had 16 children? That is a lot of children.  I did not know that there is any family in Alberta as big as that.

Life was very hard especially with 10 or more. Imagine doing all that laundry. Imagine feeding all those bodies. You would need to peal a lot of potatoes for that many people.

Food was very scarce back then, I would be really scared about no food!
