Melrose Community Senior Story 2

When did people get together?
When?
Yeah, what events?
Way back in the really early days it was mostly in the little, it was all held in the school houses. Melrose school, they had a one room school they had card parties and they had dances. You d wonder how- what they did, dances
Square dances.
And all the fun was to gather there and pass the time of day. Anything to get away from home for awhile.
So they would come together in the evenings, and card parties they called them. This is where they would get together and play cards, play games like Bridge, or Whist, or games like that. And the dances, square dances I suppose.
Yep.
And sometimes maybe Christmas concerts and things like that. There used to be an airport in Melrose as well, or at least in Davisburg.
Yep, yep. That was in the Second World War there. Training the- training the pilots.
And everyday the farmers were out in the fields working and they could see the planes buzzing around, everyday all day basically, as the pilots were training to go off to England to fight in the war. And this was just a couple miles east of this school, right?
And north.
And north a bit. And that s where the airport was and the planes used to scare the horses sometimes.
Yeah. They used to loop-de-loop up there and fancy little shapes But the horses got used to it, pretty soon they didn t pay any attention.
