Lost "Lord of the Rings" manuscript

(Actual page from a Tolkien manuscript)

If you're a J.R.R. Tolkien fan, this task is for you. Sometimes people have discovered "lost" or unpublished writings by famous authors long after they've passed on.

Think this could never happen? Michael Drout found Tolkien's hand written work on the epic heroic poem "Beowulf" at the bottom of a cardboard box in an Oxford University library. Really! Click here to read more.

So, what if....

You purchased an old oak filing cabinet at an auction that apparently was once in J.R.R. Tolkien's office at Oxford University. You remove the bottom drawer to repair it and discover:

  • a missing chapter from "The Lord of the Rings"
  • OR

  • an alternate ending(s) to "The Lord of the Rings"

In the style of Tolkien, write the missing chapter or alternate ending that shows Frodo as the unlikely hero.
