Turner Valley Senior Story 1:
Turner Valley

In the early days, the schools were built about every four miles. The longest walk you would ever have would be four miles. So if you were within four miles of the school you walked. So all the kids from across the river, the Denning kids, they all walked to school. And then eventually they hired a bus. But when I was going to school-or they rode their horses. Your moms and dads, maybe, takes them. I know Mr. Miller who used to live west of turner valley. Well, he bought his own bus, but before that he always talked about how he started the kids in school, he brought them down by horse back. The kids actually walked or came in by horse back. And that s why they needed a barn.

What school did you attend and teach at?

I attended Turner Valley school from grade one to grade nine, we didn t have kindergarten. And then I went to North Turner Valley High School. Do any of you know where the North Turner Valley High- it s still there, some of it.

It s up by the golf course

Yes. It is where the golf club is. And you used to have to walk to school in the morning, no buses. I was lucky, my dad would drive me. But there was no buses. Or he would give the truck to the delivery boy, and the delivery boy really liked us.
