High River Student Story 1:
Chichery family house

This Tykerra and Jane reporting from the Chichery family house.

Tykerra:  We’re here with Allison Chichery, the oldest sibling of the Chichery family who currently live in the Victorian Bed and Breakfast, a historical home in High River.
Jane:  So Allison can you tell us when this home was built and who was the first person to live in it?
Allison:  This lovely home was built in 1908.  It is a Queen Anne style house.  The first person to live in this house was Mr. Noble, a private lender for the farmers; he was also the person who built the house.
Jane:  Do you know of any other families that have lived in this house?
Allison:  Yes, a couple lived here in the 1980s and they did many renovations to give the house an original look.
Tykerra:  Can you tell us how old this house is?
Allison:  It is 100 years old this year.
Jane:  Was this house anything different than the bed and breakfast that it is today?
Allison:  Yes it became a nurse’s residence when Mr. Noble passed on in 1927.  There was an extension built on the house to add space in the kitchen.  Joe Clarks’ grandmother lived here as a nurse.  Also, Lucille Dougherty, who was later mayor of High River, lived in the house as a nurse.
Tykerra:  How long was the house a nurse’s residence?
Allison:  From 1930s to the early 1950s.
Jane:  Do enjoy living in this historical home?
Allison:  Yes, I think it is a very interesting house because there a lot of old pictures and the house is very different from the newer houses near it.
Tykerra and Jane:  Well this is all the time we have today, this is Tykerra and this is Jane signing out.
