Black Diamond - Student Story 2

Black Diamond Hotel

I once was just soil and grass. A huge decision was made to build a hotel right where I was. In the early winter of 1930 Louis Hanson dug a hole in my soil and my grass to make a basement for the hotel. Louis used dynamite and shovels to make the hole. I became a two-storied building with rooms upstairs for people to stay in and a beer parlor and café downstairs. Even the doctor’s office was in my west corner for a number of years. Drs. Dave and Harry Lander worked here. In 1949 there was a huge fire on Main Street. I was scared but I was lucky. I survived. Eventually changes were made to my hotel and brick was added to my walls. Today I am still standing, still a hotel, and very popular in the area.
