Naming the West : Stories Siksika

Siksika Elder Story 1:

You go down to Chicago, and you know why they call it Chicago. Because in the 40s anybody that was living down there, it was the thing to dress like Al Capone, act like Al Capone, hat and long coat. But all of the people that dress like that are gone.

Washington, go down to there, down in Washington this white farmer I think it was, or rancher used to see our people, all the women going down to the river bottom doing their laundry. That’s where “Washington” comes from.

Arrowwood, it really means many buildings of wood. If you go to the west, because you know…because all of you know where Carseland is, it is up higher.
