Red Deer Lake - Local Parlance - Student Story 3:
Chicken Hill

Chicken Hill is a very steep road in our community.  It got its name because of a chicken farm that was located on the side of the hill. Our bus drivers don’t like the road because it is very steep and slippery, especially in the winter.

In the winter school busses would try to go up but could get stuck. Once, a bus started to slide sideways down the hill. The bus drivers would sometimes see cars stuck on the side of the road because they couldn’t get any grip.

Many horses and cattle graze near the hill. In the summer it is very beautiful with lots of nice trees.

Chicken Hill is important to our Red Deer Lake because it has memories and history for all of us in the community.
