Melrose School Senior Story 2

There was a family that came over from Scotland in about 1885 or maybe a little even before that but not much. And there was quite a large family they had kids in pretty near every grade there was. At the one time they had 16 kids. Some of them were born down east before they came west but a lot of them were born out in the west. He was the one that named the school. His name was John Currie.

He came from Scotland in the south of Edinbourough in a place called Melrose and so he wanted the school named Melrose and the board went along with that and my grandfather was the first chairman of the board in Melrose. The school was built in 1890.
