Longview Student Story 2:
Longview - Big Hill

In the 1800’s two tribes named the Cree and Blackfoot both used Big Hill to look out for other tribes, settlers and game. They had no school but they learned from their elders.  The Blackfoot lived in teepees and the Crees did the same.

In 1888 a settler named Mr. Bernet came and bought the Big Hill. Then in 1950, Mr.  Frank Gallup bought it for his cattle and for ranching. It became known as Longview Hill.

The hill is 10 miles south of Black Diamond or 20 miles west of High River and right in the village of Longview. Today some people still call it Big Hill.
