Naming the West : Sories DeWinton

So Dewinton was named in 1892 with the arrival of a Colonel, and his name was Francis Dewinton. He was later called Sir Francis , and he was secretary to the Governor General of Canada, and that s why he was out here. He settled and named Dewinton, and it was a booming town back in those days. Mr. Dewinton had visualized that it was going to be a very big town, but as we know Dewinton did not grow that fast. Because what happened is the World War One came along, and this little town of Dewinton just had no need to grow any faster, because Okotoks and Calgary were the cities that were chosen to grow faster.

People couldn t find work anymore in the area, so people had to move to Calgary or Okotoks or to other areas to get find work. And it was not close to any major stores or anything because all they had there was just a very small store.
