Critical Understandings
We
need to understand our relationship to local, regional and global aquatic
systems and promote solutions to address water issues to ensure the long
term health and sustainability of our world.
During
this investigation you will explore human impacts on aquatic systems and
examine the place of science and technology in addressing water issues.
As a result of this investigations students should arrive at the following
understandings:
- Human
intervention in our water systems has often had disastrous consequences.
- Most
water disasters can be attributed to human fault and are therefore preventable.
- Every
story or event is told from a point of view and there can be many different
viewpoints related to a particular issue.
- Availability
of clean, fresh water at both the local and global levels is critical
to the survival of all living things including humans.
- Interventions
by humans has both positively and negatively influenced relationships
between landforms, water and climate.
- Water
quality influences all living things and has a direct impact on the
productivity, diversity and quantity of species that exists in an aquatic
environment.
