Davisburg School - Student Story 2

Amber: We are going to interview my Grandma, Teresa Bergland and ask her some questions about our school district Davisburg and get her to tell us some stories.
Amber: How did Davisburg get its name?
Kirsten (Mrs. Bergland) Well Amber Davisburg used to be called Glenbeg but they changed it s name to Davisburg after a colonel named D.W Davis and my Mom s last name was Davis so I thought it was named after her but it wasn t.  But another Davis did live in the area.  Mr. Davis was also a member of the House of Commons from Alberta and Mr. Davis came from Montana and went to Cypress Hills.
Tanner: Was there a school in Davisburg?
Kirsten: Yes it was called the Davisburg District School.
Amber: What did they do at recess?
Kirsten:  They played baseball in the fields, as they did not have a playground.
Tanner: Was there any special events?
Kirsten:  The school was used as a community center and they had dances and concerts in it.
Amber: Where did the teachers live?
Kirsten: Well there was a teacherage beside the school in 1913.  It was attached to the school in 1914.
Tanner: What was the discipline back then?
Kirsten: You received the strap and I know that getting the strap wasn t one of my happiest moments.
Amber: Do you have any interesting stories about the school?
Kirsten: Well every so often a really strong lady came in.  One day a boy was being bad so she lifted the desk that had been nailed to the floor with the kid and threw them out the classroom window.
Tanner: Thanks for sharing that with us.
Kirsten: Your welcome I hope I taught you something. Goodbye!
