Having an Indian name carries a lot of weight. Alvin Many Chief's grandmother taught him that you have to have four stories when creating a name. The strengths and truths of each story selected is that which will help the child to grow. He also notes that people are forgetting this part of their culture - what will happen if one day, for example, Pete Standing Alone decides he is no longer going to give Indian names?
