The Indian Slow Race

The Indian Slow RaceOral Communication by Dr. Reg Crowshoe

"Oh, what is The Indian Slow Race? Well it's going to what we used to do when we were young and they were talking about the Indian Slow Race, it was walking backwards to the finishing line.

So, when we walk fast to the finishing line, the first one there was the slowest. It was in reverse."

"The Indian Slow Race is a race that used to be ran at the Calgary Stampede back in 1912 to about 1923.

It is a game that has a start and finish line and you have to run backwards to the finish line. The first one to finish running backwards wins.

They had this race for fun but also they had it to practice running away from the buffalo while looking in their eyes so that they weren’t attacked by the buffalo."
