Grass Dance Introduction

Grass Dancer Introduction"He's a Grass Dancer and Grass Dancers go way back becuase our Grass Dancers they come from the society originally and today they still have Grass Dance Societies. And the yarn he has on his britch gloves and on his shoulders that's supposed to represent grass blowing in the wind.

A long time ago the first outfits they had, they tucked them in their belts and usually they tucked long grasses in their belts, tied them under arms and carried sweet grass in their hands and those were the original Grass Dancers. And when the tribe is looking for a new place camp, they'll all move the elders would see a place where they're gonna camp so they'll go over there. When these elders found a new place to camp, they'll send what they called the drum singers, guys with the big drum, and they'd bring it out and they'd ask all the Grass Dancers to come and this derived from a ceremony and they still do it today at alot of PowWow's that you go to - not particularly this area because we're ah.

Beyond the grass, they flatten the grass where people are gonna camp and what they're going is they're blessing that ground, so you want it to be safe, that's where our Grass Dancers came from, so we're gonna sing a song here."
