PowWow

Grand Entry

"The grand entry is the first dance at the Stampede Pow Wow. All the visitors have to stand up when the grand entry starts. The visitors have to take off their hats during the grand entry. The people holding the Eagle Staffs and flags go first this is usually a chief or the host tribe, and then the elders enter. The men dancers come next. These are the traditional, grass, and fancy dancers. After the men, the women dancers come. They are the traditional, jingle dress, and fancy shawl dancers. The teenage boys and girls follow the adult dancers. Finally the junior dancers come with the boys traditional and fancy dancers followed by the girls traditional and fancy shawl dancers. They all dance in a line clockwise around the circle. After the grand entry, the dancers stop where they are and dance in place. The drummers drum until all the dancers are dancing on the floor."
