My Iqaluit Diary

This activity is a culminating activity for the project, which will allow the students the opportunity to look at the Inuit study from a different perspective. The students were familiarized with the scenario, outlined above, very early on in the project and much of their research was to enable them to put themselves in "someone else’s shoes". They were to be living in Iqaluit, with their "family", for one year.

Within our school calendar, the "move" the student’s were making, was during the Easter break. We were very fortunate to have an IMAX movie open, just before our break, that we were able to travel to and see as a field trip. As far as the kids were concerned, we were going to the Arctic!

Once we returned from the movie the students were ready to "go to Iqaluit" and record their trip in a diary! We revisited things to do in Iqaluit, from our mapping activities, brainstormed, things to include in our entries and looked at specific ways to do that in things I might describe. The diary entries were assessed using an assessment rubric.
