The
Quilt Made of Gold By Allison
One summer morning the sun
looked strong on a little house in the prairie. They have no neighbors
and they were not rich but their home and family made them happy. Lory
was the mom and Suzy was the baby. Nell was the oldest. Their dad had
died when Nell was 3 years old. They have friends and family in the
town. "Mom, when will we get to see grandma and grandpa?"
Tomorrow was the
answer. Nell and Suzy were happy. Her mom told her to clean her room.
Nell tried to do a good job. Then she laid out her nicest dress to wear
tomorrow. She looked out the window. The leaves sparkled in the sunlight.
The day went quickly with all the chores the family had to do. Soon it
was time for bed but Nell could not fall asleep. She dreamed about her
Grandma and Grandpa and riding on the wagon behind their horses.
In
the morning Nell and Suzy woke up with sparkles in their eyes. They both
yelled good morning to their mom. When they had washed and finished their
breakfast they scurried outside to sit and wait for their grandma and
grandpa. They could hear the sound of horse feet around the corner clip,
clop. All of a sudden Grandpa and Grandma were there! The kids jumped
into their arms and they gave each other a long awaited hug and kiss.
Mom was cooking
supper for us. They sat on the couch and were glad to be there. Nell and
her Grandma went to pick some flowers for the table. They picked roses,
violets and daisies. The colors of the flowers glowed and sparkled at
the same time. When they got back with the flowers Grandma lead Nell to
her bedroom. There on the bed was the most beautiful quilt. Nell could
hardly wait to sleep under this quilt of love that night.
