Task

You are a member of a fact-finding team of community people. You and the rest of your team will try to discover why the wetlands are drying up and come up with a workable solution that satisfies the needs of all the the people who care about their community.

Question

What actions should the municipality take in order to preserve the wetlands in such a way that the interdependence of all living and non-living things in your community is maintained?

Presentation

Your team will present its findings to the municipality in one of three forms

a multimedia presentation using multimedia software
a web site
a documentary film

Your team's presentation to the municipality will contain:

information about what might be causing the wetlands to dry up,
why it is important to take action now
a course of action your team would advise the municipality to take.
advantages and disadvantages of the actions you propose

Goals

By completing this project on the wetlands you should achieve the following goals

develop an interest in what goes on in a wetland, how wetlands live and grow and why people need wetlands
use the power of the internet to explore wetlands in Alberta and other places
learn information about (fill in science curriculum stuff)
understand the importance of common interests in solving a problem
work with your team-mates to solve problems and create a common course of action
create a presentation that takes into account the different perspectives and different strengths of the people on your team
learn to track your own learning by using field notes
