You are part of a team of specialists that has been contracted by the Economic Development Department of one of the provinces or territories to help attract new businesses and investment to that province or territory. Your team is charged with the responsibility of creating a presentation that the province can use to persuade potential investors that a favourable business environment exists in the province or territory.

Your presentation will need to address the following areas:

  • Why invest in this province or territory?
  • Why does this province or territory offer the best business advantage?
  • What is the current state of the economy of the province or territory and what factors have influenced that?
  • What is the economic outlook of the province or territory?
  • What makes this province or territory a desirable place to live?
  • Why would some of their current employees be attracted to move to the province or territory?

As your team gathers information and data about the province or territory you will need to consider that:

  • the purpose of the presentation is to attract new investment to the province or territory.
  • throughout your presentation you will be expected to provide specific details as well as general trends.
  • the presentation will have to provide evidence that you have gathered data from the Statistics Canada website as well as other reliable information sources, carefully analyzed the information available to you and formulated your case based on the best information available to you. It is imperative that you remember that data are not merely numbers, but numbers in a context. your team will also have to provide evidence and justification for the choices that your team has made. It is always important to those making the decisions to understand the implications of the information that you selected.
  • your team should strongly consider a multifacted presentation which includes the use of graphs, charts, images, simulations, videos, sound, as well as text to make your case.
