Spot in the Indian Village

Elders

Oral Communication by Dr. Reg Crowshoe

"From the stories I heard from Old People when I was growing up at the Stampede, we used to camp at the Stampede and people used to come and visit from other tribes and Old Timers would see them visit with my Dad or my Grandmother or older relatives who would sit and visit and talk and tell stories. I used to hear them tell stories about who are some of the first people to move to the Stampede. So in the early years before the fifties it was families that moved into the Stampede from 1912 that had a connection and then today we still have families and teepee's that were invited or camped at the Stampede in 1912 that are still camping there, so that's how the spots were allocated at the beginning when Stampede but of course today they move into a modern setting and they allow so many spots at the Stampede. So if you're gonna camp at the Stampede and there's a spot opening, then it's going to be the teepee owners that are gonna invite the individual with the teepee design into the camp with them."
