Treaty 7 and the Indian Village

Treaty 7

"Twenty seven teepee's in the Indian village and you can only see a part of them here, they go in a sort of big semi-circle kind of like the one you're sitting in and then the council teepee would go in the middle and each one of these teepee's is is owned by what we refer to as one of our teepee owners. Each of the five tribes has some representation so there are teepee's from every tribe and it's a special honour to have your teepee there. Alot of these teepee's the families that have been camping at the Indian Village some of them their families have been camping there since 1912 and so what happens is that as they get older the Elders will then pass down the rights to have that teepee to their family. So in particular we have one ah teepee owner there who's name is Ed Calfrope. His I believe was his grand father Ben Calfrope camped at the Indian Village back in 1912 and that was then handed down through the family so it's a very very special honour for our teepee owners to have their teepee's in the village and it would be a very special occasion for us to bring in a new teepee owner from one of the other five tribes of Treaty 7."
