  High School ICT Initiatives

"Can ICT support more powerful, more complete experiences of collaborative knowledge building?

The answer is yes, it can, if we integrate well-designed technologies in the context of meaningful, mindful inquiry projects, non-presentational pedagogies, access to resources and tools, and adequate support for technological maintenance and pedagogical renewal ~ Alain Breuleux (2001)

Today’s workplaces and communities need citizens who can think critically and strategically to solve problems and learn in a rapidly changing world. Galileo worked collaboratively with high school teachers to create strong inquiry-based environments that offered new possibilities for addressing these challenges. As a result the following new images of engaged learning and high school renewal began to emerge.

COLLABORATIVE MATH PROJECT

Let Me Count the Ways

Students from Edmonton and Ontario connected with one another and worked collaboratively with mathematicians from Mount Royal College and the University of Alberta. Together students and mathematicians worked to investigate problems belonging to the branch of mathematics called combinatorics. This area of mathematics has become increasingly important and widespread within a variety of fields ranging from computing science and engineering, to interior design and video game development.
