"The following story written by a grade 2/3 student in October demonstrates an understanding of engagement, richness of word pictures, emotions and feelings."

Pioneer Times by Kristopher

In the pioneer times I can't believe that people had to go to the outdoor bathroom, especially at night. I don't like outhouses. They give me the creeps. This is the place that spiders live. In the dark corners would be large sticky webs. In another corner there may be a funnel web. The top is big and the bottom is small. The web is held in place by long trails of silk. The spider would wait patiently at the bottom for an insect to fly or walk in. Sometimes you may accidentally rub against the web when you opened the door.

The wood on the walls and the seats would be rough and hard. If it was not painted you could even get slivers. It certainly would not smell very nice. When the rain dropped outside it would sound really loud inside. The wind would blow through the holes and make the outhouse cold. I would not like to use the outhouse especially at night.
