Description and Terms of Reference
1. PURPOSE
The Gallagher-Galileo Fellowship enables an exceptional new scholar to work with The Galileo Educational Network to consolidate his/her research training, develop and initiate original research in knowledge-building learning environments and participate in and contribute to the activities of The Galileo Educational Network. Only one award is available each year.
2. QUALIFICATIONS
For the 2011 competition, a candidate must be either:
- candidates who at the time of tenure will be registered as full-time post-candidacy students in a doctoral program in Education at the University of Calgary and whose thesis is related to the work of the Galileo Educational Network, or
- post-doctoral candidates whose research is related to the work of the Galileo Educational Network.
3. CONDITIONS OF AWARD
The Gallagher-Galileo Fellow must carry out a program of independent research related to the ongoing work of The Galileo Educational Network and be a resident in the Calgary area for the term of the fellowship. The Fellows' responsibilities will include presenting at conferences and symposia, publishing and contributing on a formal and informal basis to the activities of The Galileo Educational Network. The successful candidate should expect to participate in sustained interactions in K-12, post secondary and business environments.
4. STIPEND & ALLOWANCES
The Fellowship is $35,000 for a twelve month period.
5. DURATION
The award is made for a twelve-month term only. Tenure of the award may commence April 2011 or as soon as possible thereafter.
6. APPLICATION
Application is made to the Office of Professional and Community Engagement 9th Floor Education Tower, Attn: Sylvia Parks or Shelley Enderton--Galileo Fellowship, Faculty of Education, University of Calgary, 2500 University Drive NW, Calgary, AB T2N 1N4. Applicants should submit two copies of a letter of interest explaining how their research work is relevant to the Galileo Educational Network along with a CV and list of references. Applications may be submitted by email to galileo@ucalgary.ca.
Information on the Galileo Educational Network and the application procedure is available from the Office of Professional and Community Engagement, Faculty of Education, University of Calgary from Sylvia Parks or Shelley Enderton. The Fellowship will be awarded through nomination by the Dean of the Faculty of Education at the University of Calgary in consultation with the Galileo Network staff. Recommendations from the Dean of the Faculty of Education will be forwarded to the Graduate Scholarship Office. The recommendation is subject to final approval of the Graduate Scholarship Committee.
