What's a Bylaw?

The word bylaw has an interesting history. Some people mistakingly believe the word literally means by law. The prefix, by has Old Norse roots meaning town or village. The world "bylaw" lends its origin to the creation of "town laws" or "village laws."

The students from Magrath, Alberta help to clarify both the meaning of the word bylaw and their purpose.

 

Students were asked to investigate many issues of bylaws. One of these investigations began with the prompt “Bylaws are…”. Watch as junior news broadcasters take you through a fast paced overview of bylaws.
