"Do you remember the two guys who helped me to help trail the cattle down to the Bar U?"
"I sure do John Ware, one was Bill Moodie He got you the job after you were hired on in Idaho to help trail the cattle to the Bar U Ranch."
"Yes then when we got to the Bar U, Tom Lynch wanted to hire me and I remember saying that I would only work if he hired my friend Bill Moodie."
"Yah Bill Moodie must have been glad and surprised that you got him the job. After all he was the one who got you the job in the first place."
"It was freezing out there because the wind was so fierce and the snow was so deep. It snowed for 8 days straight without any Chinooks."
"I had to try to make a fire and go down and stay out of the cold wind. I had to sing to the cows and make sure they didn't drift too far up into the coulee. I remember it like yesterday."
"You were sure brave to do that. To stay with the cattle and keep them safe for so long."
"George weren't you a foreman at the Bar U Ranch and didn't you like to buy and sell cattle?"
"Yes. Fred Stimson hired me as a foreman at the Bar U Ranch. I loved to buy and sell cattle and eventually I was a part time owner of the Bar U Ranch. And did you know the Bar U Ranch was kind of a school for cowboys?"
"I bet there sure are some great stories about life on the Bar U Ranch." |
