History of Cowboy Culture

I Learned That...

At the end of our inquiry, these are our thoughts about cowboy culture.

Storytelling by the campfire

Transcript:

"... cowboys do a lot on the trail. They would ride and ride for many many miles. They would also ride for many months on the trail and never see a calf. It was a good thing that they had each other otherwise it would be very very lonely."

"...cowboys love a good campfire. They would sit around the campfire and have a fresh baked biscuit and maybe some stew. They would have a little bit of Arbuckle's coffee. They would have to work after the long days for the little piece of peppermint. It would always be worth it and they would love to tell about he stories on the trail."

"... cowboys had to work 20 hours a day and 4 hours they got to sleep They had to work on the trial because there was no one else to help them on the trail."

"... there were lots of dangers for cowboys like cows getting sick or even dying or cold winters and dusty sandstorms or cows riding wildly because of thunderstorms. Snakes and other dangerous animals like wolves would scare the cattle. You had to be very brave."

"...a cowboy does a lot of hard work. They work night and day. I mean really hard work like rounding up cattle, finding stray stallions and in the spring when they have cattle. It sure is a lot of hard work."

"...cowboys stick together and never leave anybody behind. They always look out for their horses, their cows and most importantly they look out for each other."

Final Thoughts

"I wonder if there will always be ranches, cowboys and ranching. Today there is but what about in 100 years from now? It looks like we have enough land but how will we take care of it all? Who will look after the land, raise the cows, and work hard day after day? How do we keep the stories of ranching and cowboys alive? I guess the future of cowboys and ranching is up to us."
